New game enemy takes a solid day to defeat
Players pass out, get sick during extreme battle.

If it's good enough for Cartman, it's good enough for Square-Enix.
The developers of the online role-playing game Final Fantasy XI seemingly borrowed a page from the Emmy-winning South Park episode "Make Love, Not Warcraft" by updating the game with one of the longest - and most physically grueling - video game fights ever. Introduced in the game's latest downloadable update, the boss monster "Pandemonium Warden" remained perfectly fit after a group of high-level adventurers wailed away at it nonstop for over 18 hours straight.

Though the seemingly unbeatable boss will not prevent people from 'completing' the game -- persistent online games typically do not "end" like most single-player games -- it has sparked debate over what exactly the game's developers, Square-Enix, expect out of their devoted fan base. Message boards have lit up with disgruntled players calling out the company for failing to respect its very own in-game warning telling players they have "no desire to see your real life suffer as a consequence [of playing]. Don't forget your friends, your family, your school or your work."
Easy for them to say. While the beast continually healed, the gamers weren't so lucky.
"People were passing out and getting physically ill," leaders of the player guild said in a forum post. "We decided to end it before we risked turning into a horrible news story about how video games ruin people's lives."
Too late.
Found this article and i though you would get a laugh out of it. Hope it was ok to cut and paste it in here like this. |

A day late and a buck short yahoo. This happened about 2 weeks ago. Buy yeah anyways SE is getting a little ridicules with the “End Game Bosses”. Lets see so out of the 3 expansions that have end game bosses 2/3 of them are unbeatable. Yeah that’s how you make a fucking game. SE has come out and said that the average LS will take around 18 hours to defeat AV, the Boss of CoP expansion. And now we have PW, the boss of ToA expansion. The LS that spent 18 hours fighting PW gave up because they figured it would take them probably 6 more hours to kill the PW if they were lucky. What’s not mentioned is that BTL (the LS they are talking about) is no average LS. They’re probably the best LS on all of the servers. So for them to say fuck this after 18 hours really says something.
Links to BG's site talking about PW.

| If you think this is looong, have you seen the requirments for the new relic weapons ? Many people on BG fourms and others have thought it would take about 30 + years to fully upgrade these. I think someone at SE went a little to far lol |

The past two weeks have seen considerable feedback from players regarding the amount of time required to combat the Pandemonium Warden, a recently implemented Notorious Monster (NM). Discussion has spread significantly throughout forums, and it has become apparent that this is indeed an issue of major unrest in the community.
We would like to assure players that the development and management teams place a high value on their feedback, and the issue has since been taken under serious consideration. Together with Absolute Virtue, it has been deemed that the combative techniques for weakening these NMs are too difficult. As a result, some players have engaged these enemies using unanticipated methods which led to extended battle times. It is by no means the desire of the development team to see players involved in encounters that require an excessive amount of time and effort to complete. It was for this reason that previous measures were put into practice which prohibited NMs from being held in battle for prolonged periods. In response to these events, we have determined that further alterations are required to prevent such battles from exceeding a certain predetermined length of time.
Included in the version update scheduled for early September will be modifications to the degree of difficulty of Pandemonium Warden (and associated pets), Absolute Virtue (and associated pets), and Jailer of Love. The aim of these changes is to create battles where a decisive outcome may be reached within a shorter period of time.
The development and management teams would like to take this opportunity to express their commitment to a healthy and wholesome game environment for players everywhere to enjoy, and to thank them for the continued feedback.
About time SE said something. |

| I guess being totally embarrased and being the laughing stock of the video game world, SE finally decided to do something. I guess you can make a difference when you complain loud enough. Now we just need to fix the 3 Kings, so people can actually kill these |
